“Disciplining yourself to do what you know is right and important, although difficult, is the highroad to pride, self-esteem, and personal satisfaction.”
Margaret Thatcher

Reflection: What Ms. Thatcher is trying to say is that you have to teach yourself to be a good person. If you do this you will have pride, high self-esteem, and personal satisfaction. You will be happy with yourself and everyone around you will like to have you as company.

Balancing High School and Part –Time Work Part 3

Balancing High School and Part –Time Work
Part 3
Brad MacGowan, of the Career Center at Newton North High School in Massachusetts, thinks that working can be a valuable part of a student’s life, if taken on responsibly. “You can derive a great deal from working, considerably more than just money,” he says. “In most cases, you can acquire a nice dose of discipline and a whole new set of skills and experiences.” In addition, your supervisor may be willing to write a strong college recommendation for you.
School Comes First
Schoolwork, including homework and studying for tests, should always be your top priority. MacGowan cautions students who do decide to work, “If you are rushing through your assignments ... or not studying enough for tests because of work, it’s time to cut back or quit and find a less time-consuming job.”

“What you are will show in what you do.”
Thomas A. Edison
Reflection: What Mr. Edison is trying to say is that by the things you do define the person you are. When you do good things people will think or know that you are a good person. If you bad things people will think you are a bad person and not want to be around you. You have to show that you are a good person by choosing the right and doing what is correct.

Balancing High School and Part-Time Work Part 2

Balancing High School and Part-Time Work
Part 2
Voicing your goals to someone else can help you make decisions and figure out your priorities. It can also help you judge whether you can do both—work and study – successfully. To help answer this question, ask yourself.
·       Am I an organized person?
·       What kind of study habits do I have?
·       Do I make good use of my available time?
·       Will I be able to manage my schedule effectively if I take on a part-time job?
Think about the pros and cons of working. On the plus side, a job can teach you about commitment,, time management and responsibility—and, of course, handling money. On the minus side, a job can cut into the time you have for sleeping, studying and socializing.

Grandparents Locked Girl in Bathroom for Six Years

Grandparents Locked Girl in Bathroom for Six Years
Summary: The grandparents of the girl, who is now 9, locked her up in the restroom for 6 years. She was only allowed to come out to go to school.  They started locking her up in the restroom since she was 3 years old because they thought her behavior wasn’t acceptable. The girl got examined by a psychologist and she said that that was normal behavior for a 3 year old. Brian G. Hart and Rivae L. Hart are now in jail. They were both charged with kidnapping and third-degree felony child endangering. Rivae is the maternal grandmother of the girl and her 8 year old brother.
What I think: I don’t think this makes any sense. I don’t find any good reason for these people to have done such a cruel thing to a young girl like this. She was just 3 years old and they locked her in the restroom. I don’t think this was a right thing to do. If they wanted to discipline her they should have talked to her first. She was a little girl and she didn’t know what she was doing.

Balancing High School and Part-Time Work Part 1

Balancing High School and Part-Time Work
Part 1

Like many high school students, you may want – or need – to work part time. Working takes a lot of time and energy, though, so before getting a job, make sure that you think about your ability to handle both work and your education.
Important Considerations
You have to weigh a number of factors when deciding whether to take on a part-time job. It’s important to get as much information as possible, so you can figure out what choices makes the most sense for you.
Schedule a meeting with your school counselor to discuss the idea of working. Talk to your counselor about why you want to work and what type of position you’re seeking.

Marcus Aurelius
Roman Emperor from 161 AD to 180 AD
Reflection: What Mr. Aurelius is trying to say is that you should not do things that are wrong. When something isn’t true and you know it you shouldn’t say it to no one. You should never repeat what someone else tells you because if they are telling you it is because they either want to start drama or they trust you. If you know something isn’t right then you should do it because if you know it’s not right why would you do it eventually you’ll get in trouble for it.

Theodore Roosevelt
Reflection: What Theodore Roosevelt is trying to say is that when you are trying to make a decision you should always choose the one that you think or feel is right to do. If you make the wrong decision you will sooner or later regret it but then it would be too late you would have to take the consequences.

The Arts
Research indicates that students who participate in the arts often do better in school and on standardized tests. The arts help you recognize patterns, discern differences and similarities, and exercise your mind in unique ways, often outside a traditional classroom setting.
Many colleges require or recommend one or two semesters in the arts. Good choices include studio art, dance, music, and drama. Many students have talents and extraordinary abilities in the arts. Students should look within their own repertoire of talents and identify their artistic abilities and take college classes to develop their talents.
Advanced Placement Program (AP)
To be sure you are ready to take on college-level work, enroll in the most challenging courses you can in high school, such as honors or AP courses. Research consistently shows that students who score a 3.0 or higher on an AP Exam typically experience greater academic success and college graduation rates than students who don’t take AP.
Work hard in your righteous pursuits, and you will reap the benefits of self-fulfillment and job satisfaction. Don’t make shortcuts just to “get by,” instead, take challenging and difficult roads (courses) and reach higher mountain peaks of achievement.
