“Improve your performance by improving your attitude.”
ANON
Reflection: What this is trying to say is that you can do better if you change the way you act. If you have a good attitude toward something then you will get good at that thing or at least improve.

“The first law of success …. Is concentration; to bend all the energies to one point, and to go directly to that point, looking neither to the right nor the left.”
William Mathews
Reflection: What this quote means is that you have to be really focused on what you want to do so you can be successful. for example if you want to be a doctor you have to be dedicated to going to school to learn all the things you need to know.

Reading 5 Tips for Success Tip 5

Reading
5 Tips for Success
Tip 5
Tip 5: Keep a List of Questions
When you feel confused about something you’re reading, write down any questions you have. Sometimes your questions are answered as you read further. If not, don’t be afraid to ask for help. Remember, teachers create assignments; they’ve read the texts and are familiar with them. When you have specific questions, your teachers can provide answers that will help you better understand the material. Learning is rooted in questions developed and asked by the learner.
Asking questions to yourself, to the teacher, and to others, is a great learning method. When you cease to ask questions, you cease to exist to a great extent. Read actively by silently asking questions as you read. Questioning immerses you into the material you are reading and therefore will expand your mental capacities more than almost anything else.
The philosopher Sir Francis Bacon said, “Knowledge is power.” Improving your reading comprehension is the key to gaining important knowledge and making the most of your education. So pick up a book … and a pen.

Reading 5 Tips for Success

Reading
5 Tips for Success
Reading and writing go hand in hand. The better you understand a text, the more likely you are to successfully communicate your thoughts about it in writing. So it’s important to develop strong skills in both areas. With that in mind, here’s how to improve your reading comprehension.
Tips 1-2
Tip 1: Annotate
Be an active reader. Instead of passively reading a text, take notes about important story elements, key factual information and significant ideas in the text.
Tip 2: Not the Author’s writing Style
Every author writes with a purpose, using deliberate methods to successfully relate specific information to the audience. When you’re reading, look for patterns in the author’s writing. For example, you may notice a repetition of key words, phrases or symbols—or the use of distinct type of sentence structure. Authors employ these writing strategies to help readers comprehend a central argument or theme, so be sure to explore how these techniques create meaning.

“The only difference between those who have failed and those who have succeeded lies in the difference of their habits. Good habits are the key to success. Bad habits are the unlocked door to failure. Thus, the first law I will obey, which precedeth all others is—‘I will form good habits and become their slaves’ “
Og Mandino

Reflection: What Mr. Mandino is trying to say is that whether you have succeeded or failed in life, it all had to do with your habits/decisions. When you have good habits you will be successful. When you have bad habits you will most likely fail. He says that he will have good habits and obey them; which means he will make good decisions. For example, when you do something that is good you will succeed in reaching your goals.

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens By Sean Covey

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens

By Sean Covey

For teens, life is not a playground, it’s a jungle. And, begin the parent of a teenager isn’t any walk in the park, either. In his book, The 7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens, author Sean Covey attempts to provide “a compass to help teens and their parents navigate the problems they encounter daily.”

How will they deal with peer pressure? Motivation? Success or lack thereof? The life of a teenager is full of tough issues and life-changing decisions. As a parent, you are responsible to help them learn the principles and ethic that will help them to reach their goals and live a successful life.

While it’s all well and good to tell kids how to live their lives, “teens watch what you do more than they listen to what you say,” Covey says. So practice what you preach. Your example can be very influential.

Covey himself has done well by following a parent’s example. His dad, Stephen Covey, wrote the book The 7 Habits of Highly Successful People, which sold over 15 million copies. Sean’s a chip off the old block, and no slacker. His own book has rung in a more than respectable 2 million copies sold. Here are his seven habits, and some ideas for helping your teen understand and apply them.

“The time is always right to do what is right.”
Martin Luther King, Jr.
Reflection: What Martin Luther King, Jr. is trying to say is that when you going to do something right, there is always time for that. When you’re doing something and you need to leave to do something right there is always time for that. There is always going to be time to do something good for someone or something.

You can Succeed Every Day

                                        You Can Succeed Every Day
Part 1
My overall study method: I break up studying over several days and over the course of the evening and day. Cramming never works for me so I try not to do it. I will have longer sessions on nights before big tests, but I never stay up much later than normal before tests. I know that if I take the test tired the next day I will not do as well as if I was rested.
How I’ve overcome an initial bad grade: I usually look over the test or paper to see what I did that the teacher did not want. Basically, I do not stress out about grades that much because for me they are not worth getting really upset about. I do well because I know that I know the material. However, if I do get a bad grade, or one lower than I expected, I make sure that the next time a test is coming I study even more so that I won’t be surprised by the questions.
